Prevention / Solutions

Below you will find some of the text from the website of Allergists Association Arnheim (this site is in Dutch) www.allergologie.nl :

Allergic diseases are chronic and are still not to be cured. The nowadays treatment options are allergen avoidance, symptom treatment and allergen specific immunotherapy.

During the last years many research has been done in the development of and evaluation of preventive measures.  maatregelen. The results are not unitary positive and space is left for redundant sanitation measures. The latter will contribute to the heavier burden of the disease for the patient.

The medical treatment has varying stages of success with the, in short terms, reduction of the complaints of the patient, but from a broader perspective still has insufficient effect in reducing the rising incidence of these diseases.

We are eager to hear about the results of new medication and pharmacological strategies.

Allergen specific immunotherapy (or hypo Sensibilisation) is being used for years now as a treatment for atopic airway diseases.
With the accessibility of well documented and standardized allergen extracts and national (Dutch) and international consensus directions for the indication and the practical exploit, the effect of these treatment methods could be well inventoried the last years.

Meanwhile hypo Sensibilisation, an continuing, subcutaneous injection scheme, took a clear position in the therapy directions. This method has, although small, risk on severe allergic reaction and especially with children this therapy by injection is a burden.
Many research is being performed to the activities and safety of alternative applicability of hypo Sensibilisation

A solution for your insect poison allergy could be a immunotherapy with that specific insect poison.
To do this you ought to contact your physician.

Remember that already after 3 months after the start of the therapy, it is common that you have build up protection so great that you probably won't get a life threatening reaction after you've been stung by an insect.
If you want this you can ask us the name of the physician and the hospital in you neighborhood. Please click on the wasps.

Preventing Allergy

Although there are few data available, more studies show a preventive effect by breast feeding during the lactation period, for a period of at least 3 to 6 months.
It is not yet clear whether dieting by the nursing mother has any added value. This diet should be free from tree nuts, peanuts, milk (cow's / goat's )chicken egg, fish and crustaceans. It is advised to do such a diet in the case of "high-risk babies", i.e. siblings with a strong increased risk in developing an allergy, for instance because both parents are atopic. (having asthma, eczema or allergy (hay fever). When breast feeding is not possible, an alternative might be the use of hypo-allergenic milk powder till the sibling reaches the age of one (1) year. Preferably do not start with additional feeding before the age of six (6) months.

Apart from that all above mentioned measures seem to have especially a positive effect in preventing the development of food allergies at infant age and for the time being not in preventing the development of allergic symptoms at a later age.
(Passive) smoking increases the risk in developing an allergy and mUST be avoided.
