Causes
An
allergic reaction occurs when a bodily strange substance (allergen ) enters or
comes into contact with the body activating the immune system. This reaction can
be less or more severe, with a total of variations of reactions.
The
most common causes of anaphylaxis are:
Food:
|
(especially peanuts and nuts) |
Medicine:
|
NSAID's (painkillers) penicillin, anesthetic fluids, some intraveneuze
injection fluids injected during X-ray treatment. |
Wasp, Bee
or other insect poison
|
When you are being
stung by an insect, commonly there will only be some pain and discomfort.
But sometimes insect stings can cause severe reactios. Look for specific
information on the link at the right hand bottom of this page. David Glaser
tells his story and has much information on insect stings. |
Natural Rubber Latex
|
proteins of the natural latex juice can cause allergic reactions when
exposed to mucous membranes (operations, dentist); this allergy
occurs mainly with people who were frequently exposed to latex products,
like children whom at young age have been operated often (spina bifida) and
workers in health care. |
More rare causes of
anaphylaxis:
|
|
|
With this disease there is a overload of mast cells which can free large
amounts of histamine. The thought of this diagnosis will be when
having a suspected anamneses, a higher serum tryptase and a higher methyl
histamine in urine and will eventually be confirmed with a positive skin-
and / or bone marrow biopsy at which a surplus of mast cells will be
detected. |
|
|
Rise of body temperature (heavy exercise, fever) may in some rare cases
cause anaphylactic reaction. Sometimes this type of anaphyalxis might be a
symptom of food allergy. |
|
|
Drop of body
temperature (cold drinks, swimming in cold water, airconditioning) may also
be the cause of rare cases of anaphylaxis. |
|
|
This is the case when all other causes of anaphylaxis after extensive
queries and additional research have been eliminated. |
